Brother MFC-J895DW Reviews– Brother MFC-J895DW is an All-In-One inkjet printer in the Brother Work Smart series. This model offers a variety of home-office and small-Office features, such as document feeder, fax, and 150-sheet paper trays.
It offers wireless connection, USB and Ethernet, as well as Near Field Communication (NFC) support to connect directly to compatible mobile devices. In $129, the MFC-J895DW is an affordable price, given that it also offers duplexers for two-sided printing and copying.
Design
In the middle of the front control panel is a 2.7-inch color touch screen. The control panel hinges upwards of 45 degrees, which is convenient unless you set it on a low table, where you will routinely stand on it. In this case, you might expect it to tilt up to 90 degrees, such as the Control Panel on the Canon PIXMA TS9120.
You will have to rely on the touch screen as there are no four-way control buttons; The only physical navigation buttons are Back, Home, and cancel.
You can add units to your network using an Ethernet or wireless connection. USB and Ethernet ports are inside the body, under the hinging scanner glass; This unique location requires 19 inches of cable to reach. On the left side of the body is the fax port and the phone extension Port.
At the bottom left of the front panel is a door that includes a USB memory port and an SD card slot. When you insert a USB thumb drive, the on-screen menu offers three options: Photo, scan to media, and web (for cloud printing from OneNote, Dropbox, Evernote, etc.). When you select a photo, the screen displays four photo thumbnails at a time; You tap the arrows on the screen to navigate through them. Given the work of Smart moniker, I expect to be able to print Word documents, but options are not offered.
Navigation with the touch screen is largely seamless. Most menus offer buttons on large screens that respond well. The only exception came when I entered my network password; Lowercase in the keyboard screen is required pressing weight.
The weight scanner cover is due to the 20-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF), which can handle up to legal-size paper. Since the hinge does not offer resistance, you should go for it when loading the document into the glass or lifting it 90 degrees to free both hands.
In addition to the 150 sheet paper tray, the manual feed slot on the back allows you to use special paper. However, it allows you to feed only one sheet of paper at a time; The base flip-Out is only 2 inches deep, and the half-inch support that hinges Out is only 4 inches long. You insert the paper in the manual feed slot when you want to use it (which is done by default). On-screen print settings don’t offer a tray option.
Print speed
Living up to the small-office bill, MFC-J895DW printed text significantly faster than the average of 8.6 pages per minute. It delivers five pages of text documents in 27.5 seconds or 10.9 ppm. By comparison, the Canon PIXMA TS9120 text printed a little faster, at 11.2 ppm.
The MFC-J895DW also prints our six-page color graphic documents quickly. By doing that in just 1 minute and 14 seconds, it will look at the Canon PIXMA TS9120 with 32 seconds or 4.9 ppm versus 3.4 ppm. The average was 2.4 ppm.
The Glossy-Photo printing speed was not impressive, but it was still faster than the average of 4 minutes and 36 seconds. Taking just under 4 minutes to print a glossy Letter size photo, the MFC-J895DW takes more than twice during the Canon PIXMA TS9120, which accomplishes the task in 1 minute and 57 seconds.
Duplex printing on the MFC-J895DW is a decent-office. The printer is volatile with two-sided text documents in 2 minutes and 27 seconds, or 4.1 ppm. It is significantly faster than the Canon PIXMA TS9120, which takes 3 minutes and 12 seconds, or 3.1 ppm. MFC-J895DW’s speed when creating a two-sided mold of a six-page color document is roughly average. Copy and Scan Speed
MFC-J895DW is quick to create a color copy. It makes a copy in 19.8 seconds in our tests, which is significantly faster than the average of 26.5 seconds. The Canon PIXMA TS9120 is defeated by all other models, making color copies in just 17.3 seconds.
The black-and-white copying speed is approximately average. The MFC-J895DW creates a copy of the text page at 15.7 seconds, versus an average of 15.4 seconds. Canon PIXMA TS9120 faster, at 14 seconds; The fastest model in this test, the Canon PIXMA TS6020, makes its copy in just 9.4 seconds.
Using the ADF, the MFC-J895DW creates a copy of the text quickly, at 4.3 ppm, takes 1 minute and 10 seconds to copy a five-page document. This is faster than a single page copy speed.
The MFC-J895DW does not scan both sides of the two-sided documents simultaneously to produce two-sided copies; You have to do that manually. However, you can scan the original one-sided via the ADF and make a duplex copy.
The MFC-J895DW does not excel in photo scanning. Firstly, there is no 8 x 10-inch setup in iPrint & Scan Software or via a touch screen menu to scan the original glossy size of it. So, I had to scan the font size and then trim the empty white borders on two sides. Scanning photos at high resolution takes 2 minutes and 23 seconds — much longer than 37.8 seconds, taking the Canon PIXMA TS9120 to capture the same scan and saving it to JPEG format. The average is 1 minute and 13 seconds.
Scanning in black and white is better but still a little slower than an average of 10.8 seconds. The MFC-J895DW captures black-and-white scans at 11.3 seconds. In iPrint & Scan software, you choose the format in which to save the file after scanning is complete. By comparison, the Canon PIXMA TS9120 is much faster, at 7.7 seconds.
Print Quality
The work of this clever model prints sharp text that is equivalent to the best-quality inkjets. There are a few small bumps at the edges of the letters that save it from the laser-printer quality, but the mold is dark and looks sharp overall. When using the duplexer, however, the text on the two sides of the document is printed lighter and the edges appear more speckled, more like draft mode.
The graphics look interesting in our prints. The colors are quite saturated and accurate, the textures look smooth, and the details are crisp. Contrary to text documents, the quality of the graphics changes only very minimal on duplex printing. While some colors are very subtle lightly, the graphics printed are very appealing overall.
Our test photos are printed on glossy paper out accurately, well-saturated colors. There are many fine details, and textures are faithfully reproduced.
Text copies and graphs come out with accurate colors and sharp details. The magazine pages are copied faithfully, and black-and-white copies of the graphical colors reproduced well tonal ranges through mid-tone, with subtle transitions. However, a copy of the glossy photo to the plain paper doesn’t have some detail, and the color doesn’t look bright.
The text and graphics scans in black and white appear crisp and accurate in PDF format. Scanned color photos, however, seemed too dark. The color lacks “pop ” As a result, it has a slightly muddy appearance. The subtle details in the shadow areas are missing, giving the dark area a “blocked-up ” view.
Ink yield and cost
Based on the manufacturer’s cartridge price and approximate page results, the MFC-J895DW offers approximately the average printing cost. Standard cartridges offer a slightly lower cost per page of 7 Cents/20.5 cents for a text/color page, respectively. High yield XL cartridges offer a cost per page of 6 cents/16.5 cents (text/color), although this is slightly above the average XL cartridge of the competing model. However, this cost is lower compared to the editor’s choice of the Canon PIXMA TS9120, whose ink cost XL was 7 cents for the text and 17.2 cents for the color.
For a lower cost, you can buy a three-Pack color CMY either in standard or high yield. Also, there are two-Pack of XL black cartridge and a three-Pack CMY. It uses both drops of cost per page color from 16.5 cents to 15.2 cents. However, it barely gets below the average 15.5 cents per page color, using high yield cartridges.
Startup setup
Getting MFC-J895DW running is easy. I just removed a few pieces of packing Tape, pulled off the plastic shield, slipped the ink cartridges into their bay behind the door on the front panel, and loaded the paper into the tray. The tray, which feels sturdy enough, has a hinged cover that you lift to load the paper after pulling the tray. The screen then lets you know that the system’s initialization will take about 5 minutes.
The included CD-ROM says it is for Windows and MAC computers, but the instructions printed during the setting say there are no software downloads required for Apple computers.
Wireless Setup is also easy. You can use the WPS mode and simply press the WPS button on your router, or enter your network password. As part of the software installation, in addition to Brother iPrint & Scan Software, you can download PaperPort for scanning and document management.
Point
Brother’s MFC-J895DW offers many features for the price, including duplexer, document feeder, fax, and memory card slots. Fast printing and color copying make it suitable for everyday tasks, and graphics printing is significantly faster than on the Canon PIXMA TS9120. And, like the editor’s ‘ Choice, this Brother model delivers high-quality print and copy. It also provides lower text printing costs than TS9120.
However, this all-in-one is very slow to make high-resolution scans of photos, and they look mediocre despite the wait, which releases it appeal. The cost of ink is almost average overall, and high yield cartridges do not offer significant savings. Given the work of Smart moniker, you will be expecting better overall bargains.
